Wednesday, 10 August 2016, marked a new milestone for the organizer of FIM Asia Supermoto Championship with KTM confirmed as one of its prestigious race partners. The official signing ceremony between Asia Supersports Group and KTM Malaysia took place at KTM Lifestyle Centre, Kota Damansara, Malaysia. Present at the ceremony was Satheswaran Mayachandran, CEO of Asia Supersports Group; Adam Kasim, Marketing Manager of KTM Malaysia; and KTM’s sponsored rider Muhammad Habibullah a.k.a. Gabit.
The agreement between both parties encompasses the orange brand supplying a set of brand new KTM 450 SX-F 2017 bikes to race in the championship. The bike features a completely new engine that KTM claims to be more compact, more powerful and the lightest 450 engine across the motocross market. A brand new frame also contributes to the bike’s featherweight. Gabit, the official ambassador of the KTM brand and a participant of the championship, will be one of the recipients of the KTM 450 SX-F 2017 and will be riding it throughout the championship.
Adam Kasim, Marketing Manager of KTM Malaysia states “KTM Malaysia is now focusing its effort in increasing the credibility and sales of its off-road bikes. The FIM Asia Supermoto Championship is the perfect platform to do so. It is very much in line with our company’s direction this year as the sport is a combination of both tarmac and off-road. The championship also has a large following throughout Asia which once again goes perfectly with our goals as we would like to increase our brand’s presence throughout the South East Asian region. Our plant in Jitra, Kedah is now the hub for exporting CKD bikes in Southeast Asia, and soon we will be expanding into Thailand, Vietnam and Myanmar.”
